I gave up on sourdough a few years back - I don't think someone living alone can eat enough bread to keep a starter in good condition, I certainly couldn't but I'm still a big fan of anything using instant yeast. Cinnamon buns and Chelsea buns are other favorites. Better than cake (though not really better for me) they're my preferred treat. They tend to be quite sticky, wet, doughs so some sort of mixer with a dough hook is a bonus, and if you have a stand mixer it's even better.
