I've found Thirkell quite hard to get hold of so it's great to be able to buy her books at a reasonable price and in such nice covers. I'm looking forward to more. It was so difficult to find a reasonably priced copy before so I am thrilled that Virago has reissued it. Now I'm just getting anxious waiting for my copy to arrive!Claire (The Captive Reader)https://www.blogger.com/profile/07430380065718826213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-5426484220370230182013-11-21T22:19:13.239+00:002013-11-21T22:19:13.239+00:00That's really interesting Lyn, I had missed th...That's really interesting Lyn, I had missed the post and have only read 'Peking Picnic' which I was ambivalent about (it would seem to be the 1 book where the heroine finds a man her own age and actually has an affair - or at least plans too) but I did think of her reading about Mrs Rivers. This is another reason that Angela Thirkell keeps growing on me - it's the unexpectedly spiky moments. If you don't like it you probably won't like her very much at all, and if you do like it... well there are plenty more on the way :)Desperate Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708411387912078122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-42233680726723879252013-11-21T08:08:21.692+00:002013-11-21T08:08:21.692+00:00(I love that link from Lyn - gorgeous!) I still haven't read any Thirkell, but if this one stands alone, maybe it's a good one to start me off.skiourophilehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08200877834536477400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-23693950129223256042013-11-21T03:58:52.508+00:002013-11-21T03:58:52.508+00:00I have this on the way to me now & I'm loo...I have this on the way to me now & I'm looking forward to it. Have you read this post from Vulpres Libres? Apparently Mrs Rivers was based on Ann Bridge. I like AB's books but I can see that she was just as snobblish as AT in her way.<br />http://tinyurl.com/obcrufdlynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04509400868331534237noreply@blogger.com
