I think they're great because I like my wine without cork taint, and because they are so easy to open/close again... This is another hobby horse.Desperate Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708411387912078122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-15129544699355641562011-02-28T22:53:22.425+00:002011-02-28T22:53:22.425+00:00These books sound fascinating,I love to read recip...These books sound fascinating,I love to read recipes and older ones are so interesting. You mentioned a waiter's friend; here (Australia) we don't often need a corkscrew as all the wine bottles have screwcaps - much easier for me especially as I always used to break the cork (well, nearly always).
This is my first comment to your blog, but I've been reading it for ages, you always have something interesting to say.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00474905415330969580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-63956379745062751872011-02-28T21:31:30.933+00:002011-02-28T21:31:30.933+00:00Paperback Reader - Sadly I'm no expert but I d...Paperback Reader - Sadly I'm no expert but I do enjoy cooking, and also love reading about it. The Persephone books are great for that and somehow knowing how people used to cook/eat makes other bits of period writing come alive for me.

Katherine - it's an addictive show, just when I think I've got myself under control a whole afternoon vanishes. Something like 'good things in england' is just splendid reading if you cook or not.

Darlene - I briefly had Mrs Rundell and then decided to give it away as a present, I did the same with 'You Can't Ration These' and think now I need to get copies for myself again.

I don't have, but really want, a decanter and claret jug. My approach to wine is generally fairly basic when it comes to gadgets; a waiters friend will see me through most evenings, but I'm fussy about glasses. I used to have some lovely Riedal ones but somehow they always seem to be the first to get broken...Desperate Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708411387912078122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-7525204090273023362011-02-28T16:04:52.455+00:002011-02-28T16:04:52.455+00:00Great post and I really love your relaxed attitude...Great post and I really love your relaxed attitude! I'm more of a baker than a fan of cooking and yet Mrs Rundell's cookery book has provided hours of enjoyment just in the reading.

And we've recently purchased one of those rabbit aerating pourers for red wine...great toy and it really seems to improve the taste.Darlenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07415316482631852565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-48519101741749107892011-02-27T23:51:50.929+00:002011-02-27T23:51:50.929+00:00I've never really been into Persephone's c...I've never really been into Persephone's cookery books--namely because I'm not a cook myself!
