The course of the book took me completely by surprise and am now keen to read more. I have Mr Fortune's Maggot, so perhaps I should start there? deborahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13646976192022135612noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-57992747999387993152020-07-06T19:40:29.979+01:002020-07-06T19:40:29.979+01:00It was the final speech with Satan that really did...It was the final speech with Satan that really did for me, I thought I more or less had a handle on the book until then, but the last few pages just have so much to unpack in them. It's a mark of her genius the way she doesn't let go of the humour but shakes everything up so it's suddenly so much more. Like trying to read a kaleidoscope mid shake. I have most of the green jacketed Virago editions of her work (I'm missing The True Heart) so will read them first, but Summer Will Show is going on my Christmas hint list.Desperate Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708411387912078122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-11326705564939248302020-07-06T19:34:01.638+01:002020-07-06T19:34:01.638+01:00I've found a lot of writers I think are weirdl...I've found a lot of writers I think are weirdly under appreciated, but nobody who fits the bill as well as Warner does. She feels like she should be really important. (Also, don't do yourself down about your reviews, you can pack more perception into two sentences than some people can in an entire post.)

I do urge you to try Summer Will Show, it is of course very different but I think it's right up your street.helenhttps://gallimaufry.typepad.com/blog/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-7362184319623207392020-07-06T09:05:42.136+01:002020-07-06T09:05:42.136+01:00So glad you loved it. Hopefully Penguin will change all that.Harriet Devinehttp://harrietdevine.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.com
