Merry Christmas

I've finally finished work for another Christmas (and basically for another year) so have a couple of hours to try and unwind and scrub the dirt off before proper celebrations begin. I don't much enjoy working Christmas Eve (hate it), far to many customers seemed to have forgotten that the true spirit of Christmas is goodwill (and not, as you might think from the fuss created when they found we'd sold out, Limoncello). But Christmas should be about goodwill so I'm doing my best to put the stress of the last few days behind me (I sold 6 tonnes of wine beer and spirits yesterday and have the bruises to prove it) and enjoy the next few days. I hope everybody reading this has something nice to look forward to and enjoy.

Happy Christmas!

  2. merry Christmas, the daughter would sympathise, she worked 9 - 10 hour shifts in the week leading up to Christmas including working till midnight on the eve of Christmas eve only to return to work the next morning for the last slog before shops closed, she and I are well over the materialist, commercial festival of compulsive gorging and self interest, o dear, that sounds very Grinch of me. May the rest of the holiday be joyous and peaceful and preferably filled with good books.

    1. I sympathise with the daughter. I hope your holiday has been filled with family time and books as well. I think you sound like a beacon of reason rather than a Grinch!

  3. I hear you, just got off work Sunday and oh how good it feels not to have to fill up my day reading a bad manuscript! Though the incivility is confined mostly to drivers here - during the holidays that arrogant "limoncello or goodwill" entitled sense is continued behind the wheel of a thousand pound vehicle, which can make going out a bit fraught. I wish you a wonderful holiday, Hayley, and a happy new year full of good health and good books!

  4. Hayley, I have been baking up a storm and thinking of you and your cozy kitchen. One of the things I made was a fruit-filled pound cake, Kind of a fruitcake for those who don't like fruit cake. The fruit was soaked in Cognac and the apricot glaze on top was infused with Cointreau.

As for Limoncello. Nothing but liquid furniture polish. Blech.

Glad your festivities are in full swing now that the Christmas eve shift is over. Merry Christmas.

    1. Oh Thomas, I can almost smell it. Limoncello isn't my thing either so it was hard to sympathise with those who couldn't get it. Hope you John and Lucy had a wonderful Christmas.
