Which I shall. Waverley was great fn, and The Lay of The Last Minstrel has some glorious bits in it about Melrose abbey. If you get the chance Smailholm tower is worth a visit too (it's a peel tower with Scott associations, bleakly romantic!). It sounds like a great trip baking in some glorious scenery. Will you go to Abbotsford too? Recommend some Walter Scott as preparatory reading - it's very much his patch too! I don't mind bad weather if indoors is cosy, it was at least an excellent excuse to stay inside and read! Jedburgh - Dryburgh Abbey - Melrose - Selkirk, followed by 3 nights at cornhill upon Tweed. Great taste of what's to come. Thank you!Barbarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02196530511497772957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-5233324487564904292016-01-10T11:35:15.354+00:002016-01-10T11:35:15.354+00:00Much enjoyed your description of this Borders brea...Much enjoyed your description of this Borders break - though your weather was very different from when I took that train ride (Edinburgh to Galashiels) in bright sunshiny September! But the mood sounds very evocative of a Scottish January and I liked imagining it. You remind me that I saw a hunt set out many years ago, a wonderful traditional sight, even though like you I'm for the fox. :-) Diana Birchallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18291540900938654707noreply@blogger.com
