In a cup like this it wouldn't be very alcoholic and I was occasionally offered something at the lower end of that scale by people of my grandparents generation. I don't think that would happen now. I had no idea that the US version would be non alcoholic so I've had just as big a revelation as you!Desperate Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708411387912078122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-69739367297635413072020-07-09T11:06:55.385+01:002020-07-09T11:06:55.385+01:00I'm going to keep an eye out for her, and unti...I'm going to keep an eye out for her, and until then treasure this book!Desperate Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15708411387912078122noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-61936497759374708672020-07-09T11:06:07.208+01:002020-07-09T11:06:07.208+01:00I really liked her writing and was curious to see ...I really liked her writing and was curious to see what else she'd written. Unfortunately he The Times Cookbook is £119 on amazon so unless I see a copy in a charity shop when they re open I'm not likely to find out much more. The Pooh book uses both and I'm feeling the urge to buy a tub of stork next time I'm out. It never occurred to me that the cider cup recipe would be alcoholic until I read your post just now. In the US cider is non-alcoholic unless you specify that it is hard cider. So when I went through the cookbook I just thought of the apple cider I would drink every fall from the apple orchards. That this isn't what was meant was quite a revelation!Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07878149675832228998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-77017237969210299922020-07-08T16:28:06.010+01:002020-07-08T16:28:06.010+01:00I have the Pooh coookbook and most of Katie Steart...I have the Pooh coookbook and most of Katie Steart's other books. My mother was a fan and I have tracked many of them down second hand. Very good basic recipes (and some fancier ones though somewhat 1970s). Very reliable recipes and nicely frugal too (as in not loads of butter and eggs) which I like. Some recipes can be very rich or special occasion and sometimes I just want something simpler. Her books are one of the first places I check if I am looking for a recipe I'd really recommend her books. Although some of the recipes may be a bit dated, most are fairly plain, basic good English cooking. The tips sections in the book are also useful reminders, if needed, of various techniques, such as meringue making.jayceehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00252396018395433888noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8011557877105021955.post-59836115033431176772020-07-08T11:21:21.448+01:002020-07-08T11:21:21.448+01:00A few years ago Mary Berry was a guest on a BBC fo...A few years ago Mary Berry was a guest on a BBC food programme hosted by Michel Roux Jr, and he was forced to eat his words when her sponge made with Marg was so light and delish. There was a real vogue for 'Pooh'-themed books in the 70s, I have the Latin translations and the Tao of Piglet and Zen of Pooh amongst others.Annabel Gaskellhttp://annabookbel.netnoreply@blogger.com
